Using a Custom SMS Sender ID

Custom Sender IDs can help customers recognise your messages more easily and understand that the SMS has come from your business.

From 1 July, new ACMA regulations require all custom SMS Sender IDs to be validated before they can be used.

A Sender ID is the name your customers see as the sender of your SMS messages instead of a standard mobile number.

Example Sender IDs

  • YourVenue
  • BrandName
  • RestaurantGroup

If you would like to use your own Sender ID instead of the default HungryHungry Sender ID, your requested name must be clearly linked to your business.

If it cannot be validated, the request may be rejected.

What can you use as a Sender ID?

Your Sender ID must closely match at least one of the following:

  • Registered business name
  • Registered company name
  • Registered trademark
  • Registered domain name

Examples

Evidence Requested Sender ID Outcome
ABC Burgers Pty Ltd ABCBurgers ✅ Likely accepted
Fresh Eats Australia Pty Ltd FreshEats ✅ Likely accepted
BurgerHouse (registered trademark) BurgerHouse ✅ Likely accepted
sushiplace.com.au SushiPlace ✅ Likely accepted
ABC Burgers Pty Ltd BestFood ❌ May be rejected
sushiplace.com.au LunchDeals ❌ May be rejected

💡Choose a Sender ID that closely matches the business name, trademark or domain you're using as evidence.

How can you request a custom Sender ID?

Contact our support team and provide:

  • Your preferred Sender ID
  • Your business or venue name
  • Your ABN or company details
  • Evidence linking the Sender ID to your business, such as:
    • Business or company registration
    • Trademark registration
    • Registered domain name
    • WHOIS record
    • Any other documentation showing the connection

We'll review your request and submit it for validation where required.

💡 To avoid delays, please ensure your requested Sender ID clearly matches at least one accepted validation criteria before submitting your request.

What if your Sender ID is rejected?

If your Sender ID cannot be validated, you may be asked to:

  • Choose a Sender ID that more closely matches your registered business name, trademark or domain
  • Provide additional supporting documentation
  • Use an approved default Sender ID, such as HungryHungr or HungryHngry

📍The sender ID can be up to 11 characters

Important

  • All custom Sender IDs are subject to approval.
  • Approval is not guaranteed.
  • Sender IDs that are misleading, unrelated to your business, or unsupported by evidence cannot be approved.

Government and emergency organisations
In limited circumstances, government agencies or organisations sending emergency, public health or public safety messages may qualify for an exception. This does not generally apply to hospitality venues.
